Landscape Design Process

Initial Consultation

I begin with a meeting at the site with the Client to discuss the client’s vision, lifestyle, stylistic preferences, budget and schedule. After the meeting I’ll writeup a Design Proposal specific to the project.

Getting Project Started

At the start of each project, the clients will answer a set of questionnaires which will help develop a detail Project Profile. The client may need to obtain a topographic survey of the site. I will review Planning and Building codes that might influence the project.

Schematic Design

The initial design phase focuses on representing the project concepts and exploring options. Designs begin by analyzing the site conditions and collecting vital information, such as sun and wind exposures, and privacy concerns. This ensures the designs respond appropriately to the unique site and desired program elements. The presentation package will have 3 schematic designs with a combination of graphics and imagery to communicate design intents.

Design Development

The feedback from the client will be used to create a final Master Plan that is developed with focused attention on key features. The Schematic Design will be drafted into an AutoCAD computerized format with dimensions and notations across the site. The plan may also contain elevation and section drawings presenting hardscape materials, furnishings, structures, site amenities, lighting, and planting preferences. Throughout this phase feedback becomes incredibly valuable as we finalize the designs.

Design Approval

If required for the project, I will work closely with the Client and the City to tailor a strategy to help ensure successful approvals through any required submittals and presentations. Building on the approved Design Development drawings, I will produce and submit drawing packages to receive the necessary design approvals from the City.

Construction Observation

While a project is being built, I can provide supervision to coordinate the project with the Client, Builder/Contractor and Sub-consultants. I can review a builder’s work to ensure proper construction techniques and materials throughout the duration of the project.
